SMC³ Elects New Board of Directors Chairman
Averitt Express VP Mark Davis Succeeds Paul Weaver
Peachtree City, Ga. - Feb. 9, 2006—The SMC³ board of directors has unanimously elected Mark Davis, vice president of pricing and traffic, Averitt Express Inc., as its new chairman. Davis, whose chairmanship officially commenced at the start of the 2006 calendar year, had previously held a variety of offices with the SMC³ board, most recently as vice chairman from 2000 to 2005.
“Mark has a lot to offer as chairman of the SMC³ board of directors,” said Jack E. Middleton, president and CEO of SMC³. “His transportation management and pricing experience with Averitt Express, coupled with his network of industry contacts, makes him an invaluable asset to this board and SMC³ as a company.”
Davis joined Averitt Express in 1978 while he was a general business student at the University of Tennessee. After earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1979, Davis stayed on with Averitt, launching a career that has included experience with dock work, shipment rating and sales account management. He has been in his current position as vice president of pricing and traffic since 1985.
Davis is a member of the National Motor Freight Traffic Association board of directors and was the board’s chairman from 2002 to 2003. He also served as chairman of the National Classification Committee from 1995 to 1996.
Paul Weaver, who is vice president of pricing and traffic for Watkins Motor Lines Inc., had previously held the position of SMC³ board chairman for 10 consecutive years from 1996 through 2005. Weaver will continue to serve as a member of the board. “Ten years is an extraordinary amount of time to serve as chairman, and I personally am so grateful to Paul for the late nights and long hours he’s spent looking after the needs of SMC³,” commented Middleton.
