SMC³ Winter Conference to Explore Proactive Planning for Transportation System Challenges

Peachtree City, Ga. - Oct. 25, 2006—Attendees at the SMC³ 2007 Winter Conference will learn how some of the nation’s leading firms are reinventing their business plans under intensifying infrastructure pressure.

The conference, “Reaching the Boiling Point-to-Point: Tomorrow’s Transportation Infrastructure Chaos,” is scheduled to take place Jan. 23-24, 2007, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Atlanta. Sessions will focus on freight growth projections, capacity needs and addressing the nation’s rising logistics costs.

Supply chain partners from some of the nation’s leading firms will share how they are reinventing their business plans to mitigate the impact infrastructure, congestion, labor and government regulations have on their operations.

Rosalyn Wilson, president, R. Wilson Inc. and author of the State of Logistics Report, will examine the cost of the U.S. business logistics system and provide a review from the 17th edition of the report. Brian P. Clancy, principal and co-founder, MergeGlobal Inc., will speak about the magnitude of the geographic shift in manufacturing and explore how this will affect transportation industry volumes and financial returns.

In addition, SMC³’s geopolitical update speakers will detail the most current economic trends, energy costs, political factors and legislative enactments that affect the transportation industry. Speakers include transportation attorney John R. Bagileo, principal, The Law Office of John R. Bagileo; Michael J. Economides, professor, Cullen College of Engineering, University of Houston; and economic forecaster Donald Ratajczak. Larry Sabato, Robert Kent Gooch Professor of Politics and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, will join the geopolitical update presenters to give his analysis of the midterm election results.
