Loss Prevention Conference Fall Meeting Sets New Attendance Record
Freight loss and damage focus attracts 44 first-time attendees

Peachtree City, GA - November 5, 2002 - The Loss Prevention Conference (LPC) set a new first time attendee record of 44 at its October 20-22, 2002 Fall Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. The meeting theme, "Tackling Freight Loss and Damage Head-On," attracted 85 transportation professionals from across North America, several from as far west as California and as far north as New Brunswick, Canada.

"LPC's meetings are vital to the claims professional who wants to be a key player in saving money for his or her organization," said Elizabeth Costner, LPC Program Chairperson and Claims Specialist for Springs Industries. "One person's efforts to reduce freight loss and damage can save the organization thousands of dollars annually."

Presentation topics for the Fall Meeting encompassed carrier tariffs, release rates and limitations of liability; concealed damage; best business practices; and incident management and recovery guidelines. Robert Bone, a regional driver trainer with Southeastern Freight Lines, discussed the techniques each SEFL driver is taught to reduce freight loss and damage. The meeting also included a re-enactment of a landmark judicial case, illustrating how the courts apply freight loss and damage statutes.

Other guest speakers for the meeting included Ellen Barker, Claims Watch Manager, Old Dominion Freight Lines; Kevin P. Branch, Attorney, Dennis, Corry & Porter, LLP; John Gibbs, Director of Claims and Loss Prevention, Southeastern Freight Lines, Inc.; Kristi Hebert, Claims Manager, Saia Motor Freight; Dwan Hughes, Director of Customer Services/Security-Loss Prevention, AAA Cooper Transportation; Brian Johnson, Director of Claims, Estes Express; Richard Lang, Director of Customer Service, ABF Freight Systems, Inc.; John Mazza, Director of Claims, Overnite Transportation; Scott McMickle, Attorney, Dennis, Corry & Porter, LLP; Rob Mosley, Attorney, Leatherwood, Walker, Todd and Mann; Kay Noll, Manager of Loss Prevention, Southeastern Freight Lines; Larry Roberts, Attorney, Lawrence J. Roberts & Associates; and Gay Rochester, President, Rochester IMARC.

LPC's membership stands at 68, including four (4) non-members joined during the meeting and three (3) non-members who joined after the meeting. This brings the number of new members who have joined the LPC during the current membership year to 14 - a 27% increase in membership. In addition, several first-time attendees have recommended that their organization join.
