SMC³'s 49th Annual Winter Meeting Announced
Transportation professionals will 'ramp up' for 2004 with the latest industry information

Peachtree City, GA - September 29, 2003 - SMC³, the leading provider of Technology Tools for Transportation®, today announced that its 49th Annual Winter Meeting will be held January 20th through 21st at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

The two day conference, "Information: The Catalyst for Connecting Relationships, Technology and Communication", will provide shipper, carrier, logistics and technology professionals with valuable and timely information to enhance their transportation decisions in 2004. Highlights will include sessions on hypermediaries, electronic information management, effective communication, and updates on the economy, energy, and transportation legislation.

"The 2004 Winter Meeting is a tremendous opportunity for those involved in transportation to network with one another and receive the latest industryinformation," said Jack E. Middleton, president and CEO of SMC³. "We're looking forward to this being our most informative meeting to date."

A panel of supply chain experts will facilitate an in-depth discussion on hypermediaries - an emerging informational and physical medium that is redefining the relationship between shippers and carriers. The session will educate attendees on hypermediaries from the shipper, carrier and provider prospective. University of Oregon Supply Chain Professor Dr. Susan Golicic, and Texas Tech University Marketing Professor Dr. Donna Davis, will be among the expert panelists.

Daniel Klaussen is scheduled to make his second SMC³ meeting appearance this January, after his well-received presentation at SMC³'s 48th Annual Summer Meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida. Klaussen's session, Effectively Managing Electronic Information, will assist attendees in handling and organizing the massive amounts of information they receive daily.

One of the most quoted economists in the world, Dr. Donald Ratajczak, will deliver his predictions for 2004. SMC³'s annual meeting attendees frequently base their business decisions on Dr. Ratajczak's insights. At the upcoming Winter Meeting, he will discuss the climate of the economy from a macro perspective and how it will impact transportation.

Dr. Michael Economides, energy expert and professor at University of Houston, will discuss the latest trends and concerns of various sources of energy. This session will cover the cost, supply, and geopolitical factors of energy and how they relate to motor carriers.

John R. Bagileo, renowned transportation attorney and principal of the Law Firm of John R. Bagileo, will discuss and translate the latest developments and initiatives in transportation legislation. Like Dr. Ratajczak, Bagileo is a regularly featured speaker at SMC³'s annual meetings and a favorite among attendees.

SMC³'s Annual Meetings promote personal and professional development information and opportunities. The Winter Meeting's personal development segment, The Edge, will be an interactive lesson on different personalities, and how optimizing their strengths and weaknesses can reinforce teamwork. This session will be lead by communications expert, Michael Swita.

The SMC³ Winter Meeting is offered to attendees as part of SMC³'s commitment to the industry, and is open to both members and non-members. Spouses are always welcome to the annual meetings, and SMC³ coordinates spouse/guest activities that include tours, shopping and dining. Spouses who attend the Winter Meeting will receive a special itinerary and are encouraged to attend the keynote session.
