New Edition of the National Motor Freight Classification Now Available

New guidelines will take effect on December 15, 2001

December 3, 2001 - Peachtree City, GA - Today, SMC³ a leading provider of Technology Tools for Transportation, announced the release of the latest edition of the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) book, version 100-AB. SMC³ began distributing the NMFC book under an exclusive agreement with the American Trucking Associations (ATA) on January 1, 2001.

Since its inception in 1936, the NMFC has enjoyed the reputation as the standard reference guide to commodity classification for freight transported by the trucking industry-no other publication carries this status nationwide among both carriers and shippers. The NMFC contains commodity classifications to determine accurate transportation charges; rules outlining motor carrier shipping requirements; packaging requirements to insure shipments reach their destination without damage; and principles and practices for the investigation and disposition of freight claims.

Additionally, the characteristics of freight change constantly and the NMFC is up-to-date with the latest commodity descriptions and classifications to determine accurate pricing. The NMFC publication covers all notes, rules, packaging and other provisions for classifying and shipping commodities of every description.

The NMFC is available through an annual subscription exclusively from SMC³. The price of the book is currently $149.00 (USD) plus shipping and handling. All ATA and National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) members receive a special price of $134.00 (USD) plus shipping and handling. The subscription renewal includes the current edition of the NMFC book and up to eight subsequent supplements for one year.

The easiest, most convenient method to receive a new subscription for the NMFC or to renew a current one is via SMC³'s website. Or, call Jack Brooks with SMC³ at 1.800.845.8090 or 770.486.5800.
