FastClass data, software and online products are the digital alternative to the hardcopy National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) book. The NMFC is developed and maintained by the Commodity Classification Standards Board (CCSB), an autonomous classification-making board comprised of full time employees of the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA).
FastClass contains the exact data of the NMFC and searches the information for you through a variety of easy-to-use features and functions. Best of all, FastClass is updated with each new NMFC-related release, including the annual publication re-issue and all supplements. These timely updates guarantee that you have the most accurate and up-to-date source of NMFC information.

User-Friendly Features
The FastClass program makes your job easier with many useful features. From a powerful search engine to enhanced export functions, FastClass provides you with all the tools you need for instant access to the NMFC.
A color code system quickly guides you to the information you need. The Library component contains all NMFC articles, rules, packages and carrier specifications. An automated version of the NMFC Index includes a search function that enables you to enter a noun or an adjective to find the item you are looking for in the article listing.
FastClass also includes a simple density calculator, allowing you to calculate densities that may be needed for classifying your freight.
Sophisticated Searches
The FastClass Search feature allows you to access exactly what you’re looking for quickly and easily by entering a word or phrase to search the text of the articles. Search results can be cut-and-pasted into a bill of lading or other document with just a few mouse clicks. You can also create a synonym list containing common words not listed in the NMFC to match them with searchable words that do appear. If you already know the item number, then using the Item Number search will display the item along with the applicable generic heading, notes, packages and subgroups. The Carrier search allows you to enter a SCAC code and if the carrier is a participant, the system returns information for that carrier.
Easy Supplement Tracking
Unlike the NMFC book, where you have to manually keep track of the paper supplements and any changes they contain, FastClass includes a quick view of the articles, rules and packages that were changed in any NMFC supplement contained within your subscription. The most recent supplement lists all cancelled items and provides hyperlinks to new and modified items in that supplement. The previous supplements (for the current re-issue) are maintained as a historical list of changed items and are viewable through the Supplements tab. Additionally, historical classification data can be accessed dating back to January 1, 1997, enabling you to go back several years to see what the classifications were on a certain date and determine which class was charged on a particular shipment.
Simplified Access
FastClass is available in several formats, so that you can choose the accessibility that works for your classification needs, whether for an individual, a group or company wide:
- As a software program for the Windows environment. The Windows software contains all of the features and functions as detailed above and can be ordered by selecting a quantity and clicking the “Add to Cart” button at the top of this page.
