Loss Prevention Conference

Inaugural SMC³ Loss Prevention Conference is a Big Hit with Claims Professionals

On October 20, 2008, SMC³ opened their inaugural three-day Loss Prevention Conference. The conference was held in Atlanta at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel.  SMC³ developed this latest addition to their menu of conferences and seminars to provide high-quality educational content on freight loss and damage prevention for the transportation industry.

“The SMC³ staff took care to keep the conference flowing and ensure the comfort and interest of their participants. The level of professionalism of the SMC³ group is outstanding and the unbiased (non-selling) atmosphere they’ve created provides attendees with a fantastic learning environment.”

–Tina Jordan, VP Operations, VFI

“SMC³ is building upon the foundation of education and networking that the LPC association established,” said John Rader, director of industry and educational services for SMC³. “Anyone involved in loss prevention, whether they represent a carrier, shipper or 3PL, will stand to benefit.”

“I came to the conference with specific questions concerning concealed freight, consequential damage and partial damage shipments. I had all my questions answered”

–Ed Caldwell, Claims Mitigator, Translogistics Inc.

The Loss Prevention Conference’s agenda offered educational sessions designed to help attendees develop strategies, techniques and best practices for preventing and resolving the claims issues which affect them the most. Previous members of the LPC board of directors worked with SMC³ in an advisory capacity to ensure that the SMC³ offering continues to be the industry’s premier loss prevention education event.

“It doesn’t matter whether you have been in the industry for years or just a short time, you will learn new ideas and concepts – something to take back with you.”

–Ellen Barker, Claims Watch Manager, Old Dominion Freight Lines

The topics covered at the conference were wide-ranging: concealed damages, drop trailer liability, processing cargo claims, a released rate update, understanding recoverable damages, and OS&D. Sessions also included a Claims Liability Workshop and a Claims Legal Update.

“Money well spent. I look forward to coming back next year”

–Rita Waters, Loss Prevention Manage, Estes Express Lines

The Loss Prevention Conference featured several interactive small group discussions and Q&A sessions on specific techniques for identifying workable prevention solutions and implementing an effective preventative program. As an added benefit to attendees, SMC³ partnered with the Certified Claims Professional Accreditation Council (CCPAC) to offer the CCP Primer Course prior to the conference and the CCP Exam immediately following the conference. In addition, all Loss Prevention Conference attendees were eligible to receive 13.25 CCPAC credits.

“Even as a 19+ year claims analyst, I learned something! Great representation of shippers, carriers, attorneys and 3PLs. Great conference!”

–Brenda Baker, Senior Cargo Claims Analyst, Landstar
