Fundamentals of LTL Operations and Pricing furnishes an understanding of the organization of LTL motor carriers as well as their logistical, operational and technological tools and methods. Topics covered will include line haul, local terminal and break bulk operations and new service offerings in the LTL sector. The session will cover how shippers and carriers can work together to gain efficiencies and optimize service. Fundamentals of LTL pricing structures and trends impacting pricing will round out the session.

Supply Chain Partnerships and Relationships investigates the roles and interactions of shippers, carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, 3PLs, technology providers and consultants. Understand how these primary participants in transportation and logistics interact and learn through business case review how each contributes to today’s LTL supply chain.

LTL Transportation Law covers legal fundamentals and best practices for anyone conducting LTL shipping and transportation functions. Topics covered include how to evaluate the risks and expenses in moving sensitive LTL shipments. In addition, we will discuss how to minimize the costs and exposure of damage claims, legal issues in the LTL market for freight forwarding, freight brokering and the best practices to manage the complex relationships between shippers, carriers, and 3PL's and the basics of cargo claims.

Shipment Profiles and LTL Costing will examine various shipment profiles and how their components can impact carrier cost. Attendees will learn how these profiles ultimately impact how carriers price LTL shipments. This session will also examine differences in cost between national and regional carriers.

Freight Classification is an examination of how the National Motor Freight Classification is used by the transportation industry to standardize commodities moving in LTL commerce. Attendees will learn how to use the Classification to lookup commodities, assign a class, and understand packaging requirements. How carriers, shippers and consultants participate in this process will complete the session.

Purchasing Best Practices is a look at how leading shippers and 3PLs are working with LTL carriers to purchase transportation and conduct freight bids. This session will explore data gathering and the processes of analysis, pricing, discounting, and the classification of freight. The pros and cons of using a base rate for LTL negotiations will be examined.

Supply Chain Panel Q&A, the seminar’s concluding session, is your opportunity to ask the presenters about how emerging LTL purchasing and shipping strategies in supply chain management will affect your business model.
